Chatham County is home to many small farms who produce food for local consumption. Eating locally grown food keeps money in the local economy and reduces the energy and emissions associated with shipping food long distances. The Chatham County Cooperative Extension office maintains a list of the active farmer’s markets in the County.

There are many local farms in and around Chatham County. You can visit some of these farms and see how your favorite food is produced by participating in the annual Piedmont Farm Tour organized by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association.
