About Chatham Diversion & Advocacy Programs
In 2018, Chatham County took steps to consolidate several programs providing court-related services into one department to ensure better overall coordination and support to the community. The programs cover such diverse areas as support for domestic violence/sexual assault and advocacy for child survivors, pretrial release, a safe place for family visitation, family treatment court, parenting education, school-based prevention services, and various resources/education for those involved in Chatham County's court diversion programs.
Chatham County Diversion & Advocacy Programs Director, Renita Foxx hopes the community will understand that engagement with their office involves guidance, support, advocacy, education, and resource coordination. Some programs serve those already involved within the judicial system themselves, while others provide support for survivors and families in crisis.
"We are aware of the importance of language and how certain words can hold stigma, negative connotation, and/or underlying bias," said Foxx. "Our staff are passionate and dedicated to each client/family, ensuring they learn how to advocate for themselves and navigate the challenges of life with greater confidence in their own capacity to succeed.
