The Chatham County Affordable Housing team seeks to ensure that county residents have access to safe and dignified housing within their budget. Since 2016, county leaders and staff have worked to engage the community, identify about housing needs, and build affordable housing opportunities within Chatham County. Residents can find resources here on different housing-related needs, or visit the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee for meeting information and ways to participate in discussions about housing topics in Chatham County.
Resources on housing-related topics:
- Renter Resources – Short-term rental assistance is available for renters who are behind on rent, utilities, or other housing related costs.
- Tenant Rights – State law entitles tenants to certain protections, including safe and sanitary conditions, and outlines duties for renters. In addition, resources and support are available for tenants facing eviction.
- Fair Housing – Housing discrimination is illegal. Resources are available here to ensure fairness in renting.
- Homeowner Resources – Help is available for homeowners struggling to pay their property tax bills or who need home repair and accessibility improvements.
- Housing Trust Fund – The Housing Trust Fund provides annual awards to community groups working to preserve existing housing and build new affordable units. Applications are open for funds in the 2024-2025 cycle.
