Mission
The mission of the geographic information systems (GIS) department is to promote and support the maintenance and enhancement of a countywide enterprise GIS database, while presenting forward thinking GIS solutions that increase data access and efficiency for both internal and external GIS end users.
The GIS accomplished this mission by:
- Maintaining accurate, up to date core GIS data layers.
- Developing a sustainable data maintenance strategy.
- Providing infrastructure for county staff that allows them to accomplish their GIS goals.
- Promoting a GIS user group for the purpose of supporting and training GIS end users.
- Developing and maintaining GIS web applications that meet the needs of the public and county staff.
- Developing and maintaining an open-data portal to allow for easier access to Chatham County GIS data downloads by the public.
Major Services
GIS staff provide support to Chatham County staff and residents on a variety of geospatial solutions, examples of which include:
- Online access to detailed mapping of locations and specific parcels in Chatham County.
- Users can search by parcel number, street names, or property owners.
- Users also can specify types of data to display on the maps.
