Mission

The mission of the geographic information systems (GIS) department is to promote and support the maintenance and enhancement of a countywide enterprise GIS database, while presenting forward thinking GIS solutions that increase data access and efficiency for both internal and external GIS end users.

The GIS accomplished this mission by:

  • Maintaining accurate, up to date core GIS data layers.
  • Developing a sustainable data maintenance strategy.
  • Providing infrastructure for county staff that allows them to accomplish their GIS goals.
  • Promoting a GIS user group for the purpose of supporting and training GIS end users.
  • Developing and maintaining GIS web applications that meet the needs of the public and county staff.
  • Developing and maintaining an open-data portal to allow for easier access to Chatham County GIS data downloads by the public.

Major Services

GIS staff provide support to Chatham County staff and residents on a variety of geospatial solutions, examples of which include:

  • Online access to detailed mapping of locations and specific parcels in Chatham County.
  • Users can search by parcel number, street names, or property owners.
  • Users also can specify types of data to display on the maps.
