COUNTY ATTORNEY:
The County Attorney is Bob Hagemann, who is an attorney with Poyner & Spruill LLP, is on retainer with the county. If residents have a question for the County Attorney, they may contact either the County Manager's Office at 919-542-8200 or contact the County Paralegal, Ann Hammack, at 919-545-8308.

MISSION:
To render fair and impartial legal advice to the various departments of Chatham County government, and to assist in creating a responsive, open, accessible and socially just interaction with all citizens.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The county attorney is appointed by the Board of Commissioners and is the chief legal officer of the county. Major responsibilities are:
- providing legal advice to the Board of Commissioners, County Manager, Sheriff and all departments of Chatham County government
- representing the County in all legal matters, including real estate transactions, planning issues, lawsuits, and tax collections
- preparing and reviewing legal documents for the Chatham County and its various departments, such as contracts, deeds, ordinances, agreements, easements, etc.
- promoting open, fair and impartial processes and procedures for the operation of County boards and departments, including the Board of Commissioners, Planning Board, Environmental Review Board, Health Department and Department of Social Services
