The mission of the Chatham County Board of Elections and the Elections Office is to plan, organize, conduct and monitor all elections held in Chatham County to ensure that citizens have the right to vote in fair and impartial elections, in accordance with state and federal election laws. The Board makes policy decisions related to elections and provides direction to the County Elections Director, but the director is appointed by the State Board of Elections.
A major focus of the Elections Office is to maintain accuracy and security of both voter registration information and the voting process, including ensuring that each voter’s records reflect that voter’s correct precinct and ensuring that those who choose to vote have not been deterred or denied in any way.
