*THE NEW SERVICE APPLICATION PROCESS HAS CHANGED*

Customers must now submit the following items to our office, located at 192 West St., Pittsboro NC, in order to open an account and activate water service:

1. Completed application

• Water Service Application- Fillable form to print

2. Deposit - due upon receipt of application

• $40 for owners 
• $80 for renters

3. Unexpired Government issued picture ID
     (US issued driver's license, State-issued ID card, Passport or US Military ID)

NO SERVICES WILL BE TURNED ON UNTIL ALL OF THE ABOVE ITEMS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED TO OUR OFFICE.  

Please read the Chatham County Water Rules & Regulations before submitting your application.

If you are moving or selling your property, you will need to have your service disconnected. Otherwise, you will still be liable for any water use, even if you are no longer living at or using the property.

All requests for termination should be in writing. Residents may submit a termination request form online online or print a PDF version and submit the form by fax 919-542-8282, or send it by mail to PO Box 910, Pittsboro, NC 27312. In the request please include the service address, the date to terminate the account, and a forwarding address for the final bill and deposit refund.

Upon discontinuance of service for nonpayment of bills, the deposit will be applied by the County toward settlement of the account. Any remaining credit balance will be refunded to the resident, but if the deposit is not sufficient to cover the bill, the County may take action to collect the balance through standard debt collection methods.

Residents who already have an account with Chatham County Water and are moving to another address serviced by our department can submit a transfer service application online to start a new account. If requesting termination of the current service simply leave the termination date blank. Be advised this will mean the account deposit will NOT transfer and therefore another deposit will need to be paid for the new account. Residents may print the form and mail to PO Box 910, Pittsboro NC 27312 or fax it to 919-542-8282.

Landlords that have tenants move out can have the water service revert back to the landlord's name and address by completing the Landlord Agreement. A deposit will also be held on your account to avoid lapse in water service. Otherwise, the water will be terminated and a new application, along with a deposit, will be required for each reconnection of water service.
