The Solid Waste & Recycling Main Facility holds different events throughout the year at our Main Facility. Check back here as we will add events and details as they are available.

Household Hazardous Waste Events 

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events are a way for residents to safely dispose of HHW. The HHW events are typically held the third Saturday of each month, from March to November from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. These events are free for Chatham County residents. No decal is required, but you must show ID with your address.

Mulch Sales

Each year we sell mulch that is created from the yard waste disposed of at our Main Facility throughout the year. Saturday mulch sales begin in March and run through May. We also have month long weekday sales throughout the summer and fall, while supplies last. Visit our mulch sales page for more details. 

Document Shredding Events

Solid Waste & Recycling tries to schedule two document shredding events per year, typically in April and November. The 2024 document shredding events are scheduled for Saturday, April 20 and Saturday, November 16 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Main Facility- 28 County Services Road, Pittsboro.

Chatham County residents can bring up to three boxes or bags of documents from their household for free shredding. This service provides an opportunity for residents to safely destroy and recycle old tax records, credit card statements, and other personal documents. 

Please remove papers from folders or files, as those items can go in your recycling bin and do not need to be shredded. Do not bring CDs, tapes, etc.; throw those items in the trash. This service is for residents only; businesses are not allowed, including home businesses (past or present).
