Solid Waste & Recycling

Solid Waste & Recycling is a division of the Chatham County Environmental Quality department. Our mission is to promote environmentally sound activities and to provide a clean, safe, and efficient program for the management, collection, reduction, recycling, and disposal of solid waste.

Major Services Provided

The Solid Waste & Recycling Division manages approximately one-third of the solid waste generated in Chatham County through the Collection Centers. SW&R does NOT operate curbside pickup service. If you have curbside service you should contact the town if you live in the town limits or your private hauler. The name of your private hauler should be written on your trash/recycling can.

Monday to Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm. The scales close at 3:30. Note: For any items requiring use of the scales, people MUST weigh in by 3:30 pm. 

The Main Facility and Collection Centers are CLOSED on all State Holidays. In addition, Chatham County also observes Juneteenth every June 19th.
