Chatham Conservation Partnership

The mission of the Chatham Conservation Partnership is to develop and implement strategies for a community conservation vision that builds awareness, protection and stewardship of Chatham County's natural resources.

The Chatham Conservation Partnership has created an innovative new tool, the Comprehensive Conservation Plan, to help with land protection and development decision in Chatham County.  This plan is the first of its kind for a county in North Carolina. Chatham Conservation Partnership Meetings are held quarterly and are open to anyone that has an interest in Chatham County's natural resources.  For more information, please visit the Chatham Conservation Partnership website. 

The data has been converted into Geographical Information System (GIS) layers that can be viewed for free on any computer that can access the internet.  To view these layers for Chatham County, please visit the Chatham County Geographical Information System website. Farmland Preservation Plan

On March 1, 2010, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners adopted a new Farmland Preservation Plan that includes several components to help retain farmland and boost the county’s agricultural economy. The plan is voluntary and does not require farmers or other residents to participate.

The plan contains two sections: Agricultural Land Use and Agricultural Economic Development.

Natural Resources Conservation Service

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provides conservation programs which help people reduce soil erosion, enhance water supplies, improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat, and reduce damages caused by floods and other natural disasters. Public benefits include enhanced natural resources that help sustain agricultural productivity and environmental quality while supporting continued economic development, recreation, and scenic beauty.
