Chatham County DSS LINKS Program
WHAT IS LINKS?
LINKS is a federally-funded program for youth between the ages of 14 and 20 (eligibility ends on a youth's 21st birthday) who are currently in or have been in foster care. LINKS is designed to build a network of relevant services with youth so that they will have ongoing connections with family, friends, mentors, the community, employers, education, financial assistance, skills training and other resources to facilitate their transition to adulthood.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Any young person between the age of 14 and 20 who is currently in or was in the custody of the Chatham County Department of Social Services after his/her 14th birthday. There are some circumstances where a young person who is 13 years of age may qualify for services also.
WHAT ARE THE OUTCOMES FOR LINKS?
LINKS works with youth on building community relationships, ensuring access to medical care, planning educational and career goals, avoiding high-risk behaviors, pregnancy prevention, and safe and affordable housing.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE LINKS ACTIVITIES OFFERED?
LINKS provides many opportunities for youth to be involved. Life Skills workshops are offered. Job preparation and job-seeking skills are taught one-on-one and in groups. Youth are offered assistance with job searches. Youth participants also have the opportunity to attend relevant conferences and seminars. Other activities include: college tours, educational field trips, community resource speakers, etc.
