Work First Emergency Assistance

This program is designed to help families with children through a short-term crisis. This program can be used to pay or help pay past due rent to avoid eviction, final notices or disconnected utilities when the usual means of payment has discontinued through no fault of the client or there was unexpected expenses. 

Eligibility: 

To receive assistance through the Emergency Assistance program, a family must meet established criteria:

  • Have a child in your home under the age of 18
  • You or your children must be a U.S. Citizen or qualified alien.
  • Have a certain degree of kinship to the child, or have legal custody or guardianship of a child.
  • Be income and reserve eligible. For questions about eligibility, please call and ask to speak with an Emergency Assistance Worker at 919-542-2759.

What to Bring:

  • Proof of your family's total household income
  • The actual bill you are requesting assistance for
  • Receipts showing proof of unexpected expenses

How are Payments Made?

Payments are made directly to vendors, such as electric companies, water departments or landlords.
