The Child Care Subsidy program uses state and federal funds to provide families with assistance to pay for child care.

Eligibility

You may be eligible to receive child care assistance if:

  • You are a resident of Chatham County; and
  • Your family meets the state determined income limits;                                        and one of the following:
  •  Your child receives services from Child Protective Services (CPS); 
  • Your child needs care to support other Child Welfare Services or your family is experiencing crisis; or
  • Your child has developmental needs.

How to Apply

  • You can make an appointment by calling 919-542-2759, in order to apply for child care subsidy services.  A subsidy caseworker will assist you with the application and let you know what will be needed to process the application.  The worker will also be able to tell you if funds are limited.  If funds are not available, Chatham County maintains a waiting list and families will be contacted once funds are available.   
  • You can also apply in person any time Monday – Friday during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What is needed to complete an application for Child Care subsidy?

  • We will need check stubs with pay dates in the month prior to the date of application for all parents residing in the home.
  • If you are self-employed, you will need a copy of last year’s schedule C tax return or business income and expenses for the past 12 months.
  • Verification of any other income received.
  • If you are a student, verification of current school schedule (schedule from the registrar’s office including days and times of classes, or proof of enrollment letter from school or training program attended).
  • Proof of special needs (IFSP, IEP, PCP or 504 Plan).
  • This is a list of the most common documents, but every circumstance is unique and you may be asked to provide other information.

Reporting Changes

Examples of changes in family situation or employment that must be reported include: 

 

  • Marriage, separation or divorce
  • Change in family size
  • Change of job or work shift or in the number of hours or days employed
  • Increase or decrease in income from employment, child support or any other source
  • Loss of employment, including leave of absence or temporary lay off
  • Change in school enrollment or attendance
  • Child receiving services moves out of the home; or
  • Change of address
