Quitting at any age is difficult. There are many FREE innovative and online resources to help young people quit tobacco and vaping. Click on the links provided below for more information on the many resources available:

Quitters

This Is Quitting

A free, self-paced text message quit program designed specifically by and for youth and young adults who vape. Simply text “DITCHVAPE" to 88709 to start. Available 24-7 to help with cravings, stresses, and slips.

QuitlineNC: 1-800 QUIT-NOW

Free 24/7 cessation services to any N.C. resident, including youth. Trained quit coaches available via the phone, web or text messaging. Call 1-800 QUIT-NOW.

SmokefreeTXT

A free text messaging service designed for young people across the US. It provides 24/7 advice, encouragement and tips.

SfT (Smokefree Teen)

A website that provides free, accurate information and assistance to help young people to quit smoking, vaping, and smokeless tobacco.

QuitSTART App

A free smart phone app that tracks cravings, moods, personal messages to assist individuals in their quit process.

DipFreeTXT

A free text program designed for young adults in the United States who are ready to quit dip. Text "SPIT" to 333888.

My Last Dip

A free online resource to help smokeless tobacco users quit.

Youth Cessation Curriculums

Not on Tobacco (N-O-T)

  • The American Lung Association’s youth tobacco cessation program for ages 14 through 19 years old.
  • N-O-T is taught by a trained and certified adult in ten, 50-minute sessions and can be delivered in a school or community setting
  • N-O-T trains youth in self-management and stimulus control, social skills and social influence, stress management, relapse prevention, techniques to manage nicotine withdrawal, weight management, and peer pressure.

INDEPTH

  • A FREE and new alternatives to suspension or citation program from the American Lung Association.
  • The Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, Tobacco, and Health (INDEPTH) supports students in a nonpunitive way to address e-cigarette use. Four 50 minute in-person classes taught by a trained adult facilitator.

Aspire

  • A FREE online, self-paced, bilingual, interactive youth tobacco prevention and cessation tool. Includes ways to monitor student progress. Developed by the M.D Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Video game dynamics are geared towards upper elementary and middle school aged students.

Healthy Futures

  • The Healthy Futures/Alternative to Suspension Curriculums are geared for students who have been caught using e-cigarettes (or really any tobacco product) and/or for any students who are interested in trying to quit.  
  • The Healthy Futures curriculums use principles of motivational interviewing and touch on all of the salient issues involved in students’ use of e-cigarettes and other tobacco products.
