 Mental-Health-First-AiderMental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based, early-intervention course that teaches participants about mental health and substance use challenges from the National Council of Wellbeing. The training helps you identify, understand, and respond to signs of addictions and mental illnesses using a 5-step Action Plan (ALGEE):

Assess for risk or harm

Listen nonjudgmentally

Give reassurance and information

Encourage appropriate professional help

Encourage self-help and other support strategies 

The Chatham County Public Health Department offers Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainings free of charge for community members and local organizations.
