The Board of Health makes and adopts policies and rules for the county health department, provides guidance on health issues in the county and appoints the Health Director.
MEETINGS: The board typically meets the 4th Monday of each month at 6 p.m. but the location varies. It typically does not meet in July or December.
The Chatham County Board of Health Meetings are open to the public. At the beginning of every meeting, a Public Input Session allows time for public comment about health issues affecting Chatham County. The total Public Input Session is limited to 30 minutes unless waived for special circumstances. You can sign up to address the Board by contacting the Chatham County Public Health Department at 919-542-8220 on the day of the meeting or onsite at the beginning of the meeting. The amount of time provided for each individual comment may be limited due to time constraints.
MEMBERS: The County Board of Commissioners appoints the 11-member Board. By state law, the membership must include one of each of the following: county commissioner, licensed dentist, optometrist, veterinarian, registered nurse, pharmacist, professional engineer and physician. It also must include three members of the general public.
