Temporary Signs, On-Site Directional Signs, Off-Premise Signs, and Off-Premise Directional Signs are regulated in Chatham County by the Zoning Ordinance. To see a map of the County Jurisdiction, Pittsboro ETJ, Siler City ETJ, Goldston ETJ, and Cary Jurisdiction, ETJ Map.

Please note that a Temporary Sign Application is required to be submitted prior to posting a temporary sign within the County. The application is available on the Applications and Checklists page, or by following one of the links below.

  • NO Signs shall be erected within the Right-of-Way of any roadways within Chatham County. This includes signs placed in the ground or attached to regulatory signs, trees, power poles or control fences.

NOTICE: Please be aware that NCDOT has authority to remove any signs within their rights-of-way without notification to the sign owner.
