Home Occupations
Chatham County allows certain non-residential uses in residential zoning districts as home occupations (see definition below). Home occupations require a permit from the Zoning Administrator. Section 16 of the Zoning Ordinance details the requirements for home occupations. Chatham County has two classifcations of Home Occupations detailed below.
Home Occupation - Any use conducted on residential premises and carried on by the occupants thereof, and which use is incidentatl and secondary to the use of the premises for residential purposes and does not change the character thereof.
Neighbhorhood Home Occupations
Customary home occupations permitted in residential districts where such occupations are carried on in the residence and/or accessory buildings no larger than 1,000 square feet.
Rural Home Occupations
Home occupations which by their nature are not compatible on small lots near other residences, and may require an outdoor storage area for goods and materials associated with the business. Rural home occupations require a minimum lot size of three (3) acres.

Temporary and Permanent Signage

Permanent signage is allowed for certain permitted uses, and is reviewed administratively upon submittal of a Sign Permit application.
