The Board of Commissioners has scheduled public hearings to consider rezoning business properties along the major highway corridors. The meeting is scheduled for April 27, 2009 beginning at 6:00pm in the Superior Courtroom in Pittsboro.

The purpose of the public hearings is to provide existing business property owners an opportunity to rezone their property to match the current use. In November 2007 the Board of Commissioners applied residential zoning to areas that were previously unzoned, making businesses within those areas non-conforming. The Board of Commissioners offered owners of business properties that were made non-conforming an opportunity to rezone their property to match the business, which resulted in these public hearings. At the conclusion of the public hearings the items will be forwarded to the Planning Board for recommendations and then will be brought back before the Board of Commissioners for final decisions.
