Chatham County Commissioners Approve Park Resolution Honoring Local Family
On December 16, 2019, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to name a proposed park in the southeastern part of the county in memory of Atlas and Lola Parker.
Members of the Parker family, who are trustees of the Lola Tart Parker Trust, sold 147 acres of land on Pea Ridge Road in Moncure at a reduced cost to Chatham County. The land will be used to develop a park that will be named Parkers Ridge Park.
“We are so grateful to Chatham County for purchasing the land that our family farmed, lived on and enjoyed for 70 years,” said Sue Parker Diggs, daughter of Atlas and Lola Parker. “We feel blessed that my parents will be honored with the naming of the park and our community will be able to come together and enjoy the park for generations to come.”
Chatham County has immediate needs for property dedicated to recreation in the southeastern part of the county, and this land will directly address this need. The preservation of this land for recreation and green space also will help protect the rural beauty and character of Chatham County.
The public is encouraged to attend input sessions scheduled for Southeast Park in Moncure. Dates, times and locations are:
