Dog Park Maintenance Schedule:
- March-November: Closed every Thursday 12pm-4pm (Mowing Season)
- December-February: Closed the second Thursday of each Month 10am-2pm

The Park at Briar Chapel Dog Park - Basic Etiquette, Guidelines and Tips for Use:
- Keep walking or playing – this helps keep the off-leash area “neutral” territory for all.
- Keep your dog on a leash until you enter the off-leash areas, and carry a leash on you for each dog at all times while in the park.
- Dogs shall be under your visual contact and voice control at all times; stay within close range of your dog.
- Be aware that dogs have different play styles. Talk to your veterinarian, talk to other park users and educate yourself on dog behavior.
- Ensure each gate closes behind you before you enter the next one.
- Fill in any holes your dog digs or make appropriate repairs to disturbed areas.
- Do not bring a dog with a known history of biting or fighting.
The Park at Briar Chapel - Dog Park Rules:
- Dog Park Hours: Dawn to Dusk.
- No animals other than dogs may be brought into the fenced area.
- All dogs must be leashed until safely inside the dog park and returned to a leash prior to exiting.
- Dogs must be under control (voice or leash) of their owners at all times.
- No prong, spike, or electric collars allowed.
- Dog owners must remain in the fenced area while their dogs are using the dog park. Owners must be in view of their dogs and have voice control at all times.
- Children accompanying dog owners must be strictly supervised and at least 12 years old to be allowed inside. Spectators should remain outside the fenced area.
- Aggressive dogs and female dogs in heat are not allowed.
- Owners must immediately leash and remove dogs from the dog park at the first sign of aggressive behavior.
- Please be courteous to others and remove any sick dogs from the dog park.
- Owners must dispose of waste property in the designated on-site container, including inside and outside the fenced area.
- No food of any kind inside dog park fencing. Eating is not allowed within the fenced dog park area.
- All Chatham County government grounds are tobacco-free. The ordinance prohibits the use of any tobacco products including cigarettes, cigars, all forms of smokeless tobacco (dip or chew) and other smoking devices such as vapor products (electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes) on Chatham County grounds. The ordinance covers any property that is owned, leased or maintained by the County such as vehicles, buildings and other property including Chatham County parks.
- No more than three (3) dogs per person are allowed on any single visit.
- Puppies less than four (4) months old are not permitted.
- No large dogs in the small dog area; no small dogs in the large dog area.
- Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP. Current rabies tags must be worn on the dog’s collar at all times.
- Owners are liable for any injury or damage caused by their dog and are fully responsible for their dog’s actions.
- Owners must repair holes or disturbed areas created by their dogs.
- North Carolina State Law requires all dog bites to be reported; owners should exchange contact information and call Chatham County Animal Resources at 919-542-7203.
- Dog park users must immediately leave the fenced dog park area when requested to do so by park or law enforcement personnel.
- Professional dog trainers may not use the park to conduct their business.
- Bicycles, rollerblades, skates, skateboards, and strollers are prohibited within the fenced dog park area.
- All Chatham County and North Carolina animal ordinances apply within the dog park.
- Owners who fail to abide by rules and regulations are subject to loss of park privileges.

What are the hours of the dog park?
The dog park is open every day from sunrise to sunset, except during scheduled maintenance.
Is the dog park supervised?
No, the park is unsupervised. Dog owners are responsible for their pets at all times.
What are the rules for the dog park?
The dog park rules are displayed at the entrance. Please take a moment to read them before entering.
Are all dog breeds allowed?
Yes, all breeds are welcome as long as dogs are at least 4 months old and have current vaccinations. However, dogs showing aggressive behavior must be removed immediately by their owners.
Can I bring toys, food, or furniture into the dog park?
For safety, we ask that you leave toys, food, and treats outside the off-leash area, as these items can sometimes cause tension between dogs. Please refrain from bringing lawn chairs or other outside furniture as well.
How many dogs can I bring at once?
You may bring up to three (3) dogs per visit.
Can I bring my children to the dog park?
For safety reasons, children under 12 are not allowed inside the dog park.
Is it okay to keep my dog on a leash?
Dogs must be on a leash until they are inside the dog park and the gate is securely closed. For safety, please remove your dog's leash in the enclosed holding area before entering the main off-leash park.
