WHEN YOU SHOULD CALL 9-1-1

All 9-1-1 calls should involve emergencies needing immediate assistance such as:

  • A crime being committed
  • An ambulance is needed
  • Smoke or fire is visible
  • Anytime law enforcement, fire, or medical personnel is needed

If you are in doubt a situation is an emergency, CALL 9-1-1. A telecommunicator will assist you in determining your need.

DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 FOR THE FOLLOWING:

  • Report or check on a power outage
  • Inquire about road conditions
  • Check on school closings
  • Asking for a telephone number (directory assistance)
  • Asking about community events

What to do if you accidentally dial 9-1-1 for what ever the reason "Do Not Hang Up", stay on the phone and speak with the telecommunicator.  No matter how quickly you hang up the phone, the 9-1-1 call will always go through to the center.
