Death and Cupcakes: A Discussion About Advance Healthcare Directives

Chatham Community Library, in conjunction with heart2heart North Carolina, will host guest speaker Nansi Greger-Holt RN, MPH, MSN, to discuss Advance Health Directives on Saturday, March 2, from, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm in the Holmes Family Meeting Room. The event is free and open to the public.

Nansi has been a registered nurse for more than 40 years, a Family and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner for over 25 years and a Geriatric Care Manager since 2005. Advance directives are legal documents that provide instructions for medical care and only go into effect if you cannot communicate your own wishes. The two most common advance directives for health care are the living will and the durable power of attorney for health care. Advance care planning is important at any age as a medical crisis could leave you unable to communicate your own health care decisions. Planning now for your future health care can help ensure you get the medical care you want and that someone you trust will be there to let the health care team know which medical intervention you’d want,  based on prior discussions with you about your end of life wishes.

Death and Cupcakes provides a safe space to ask questions, share your story, be witnessed, sit quietly in present time, and listen to the insights of others on death, dying, loss, grief and renewal.

Funding for this program is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Chatham Community Library.
