Tar Heel Horror Film Series: The Descent

Ages 16+

Join us at Chatham Community Library as we explore "Tar Heel Horror" with a four-part film series on Thursday evenings beginning October 5 in the Holmes Family Meeting Room from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.  Films selected in this series either take place in or were filmed in North Carolina. These events are free and open to the public.

 Films in this series include:

  • Thursday, October 12: The Descent (2005). Set in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, a woman goes on vacation with her friends after her husband and daughter encounter a tragic accident. One year later she goes hiking with her friends and they get trapped in the cave. With a lack of supply, they struggle to survive and they meet strange blood thirsty creatures. Rated R.
  • Thursday, October 19: Brainstorm (1983). Scientists invent a brain–computer interface enabling sensations to be recorded from a person's brain and converted to tape for others to experience. The team includes estranged husband and wife Michael and Karen, as well as Michael's colleague Lillian. At CEO Alex's instruction, the team demonstrates the device to investors to gain financing.  Filmed at various locations in North Carolina including the Elion-Hitchings Building in Research Triangle Park and Duke University. Rated PG.
  • Thursday, October 26: Cabin Fever (2002). Five college graduates rent a cabin in the woods and begin to fall victim to a horrifying flesh-eating virus, which attracts the unwanted attention of the homicidal locals. Filmed on location in North Carolina including Catawba County and Raven Knob Scout Reservation near Mt. Airy. Rated R.
