The Board of Elections will hold a virtual Emergency Meeting at 3;00 PM today via GoToMeeting to extend the filing period for the Goldston Gulf Sanitary District based on the N C General Statues below.

§ 163-294.4.  Failure of candidates to file; death of a candidate before election.

(a)  If in a nonpartisan municipal election, when the filing period expires, candidates have not filed for all offices to be filled, the board of elections may extend the filing period for five days.

 The board may only conduct business related to the emergency (extending candidate filing) at this meeting.  G.S. § 143-318.12(b)(3).

The Sanitary District has 2 seats open, but only 1 person has filed to run at the close of filing today at 12:00 Noon .

Filing period will be extended as follows: Monday, July 19, 2021 - Friday, July 23, 2021 12:00 noon.

Anyone who lives in the Sanitary District may come to the Board of Elections office during regular business hours M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. during the extended filing period to file.
